Cape Fear High School
Cape Fear High School is a public secondary school in the northeast region of Cumberland County, North Carolina. Cape Fear High School was founded in 1969. It is home of the Agriculture Academy as well as the Science Academy. , about 1500 students were enrolled in grades 9–12. Cape Fear High is located in Vander, North Carolina, though the school has a Fayetteville address. Located near the Cape Fear river, it is the rural school of the county, and it serves as the home school for students from surrounding communities such as Stedman, Beaver Dam, Vander, Eastover, Wade and Godwin. ==Shooting incident==
On October 24, 2011, a 15-year-old female student, Catilyn Abercrombie, was shot in the neck and seriously wounded by a small-caliber bullet outside of the school's cafeteria. A law enforcement officer who had been standing close to her when she was shot immediately called 911; Abercrombie was listed in fair condition at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, according to sheriff's office spokeswoman Debbie Tanna. She was able to respond to questions by nodding and shaking her head, which is an encouraging preliminary sign. The high school was subsequently locked down, along with Mac Wlliams Middle School.
